Lancaster is so packed full of things to do, that we really don’t feel the need to stay at a campground that has our day planned out, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s just not our style. White Oak doesn’t have a pool, but they sit on the hillside, so you’re sure to catch any summer breeze that blows. There are two small playgrounds for the little ones to play on in between our many trips around the area. There’s also a large open field to play in, fly a kite, toss a ball, or just sit and watch the Amish buggies go up and down the road. Little Man had such a great time learning how to play what time is it Mr. Fox from the other little campers there.
The owners are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. They’ll be able to tell you where to go and the best way to get there. They have a wonderful little store with souvenirs and a great camping section should you have forgotten to pack something. They also have a nice little grocery section as well should you run out of a basic (why is it, that always happens at breakfast??) They also allow a local Amish family to bring in their homemade goodies to sell, you might want to try the shoe fly pie. Every Saturday night there are local pickers who come by to play bluegrass, they’re very good. It’s a nice way to wind down after touring the area for the day.
While I know the slow paced life is not for everyone, those who are looking for a quiet camping get away will enjoy White Oak. They are reasonably priced and located close to many of the attractions of the area. If you’re out there Labor Day stop by and say hi, we’ll be there with the family enjoying all Lancaster has to offer.
