Trough Creek is known to the locals as the place with the balanced rock. Yes there is this giant boulder perched on top of a gorge. Kids for decades have climbed upon that rock and peered into the valley below (assuming their parents allowed them to do so.) There is a lovely swinging bridge that leads to the rock and some say Daniel Boone himself visited the area in search of Indians. I suspect that one was made up, but who knows.
When we parked the car and started walking into the camp ground (we had to walk because it’s closed down this time of the year) we saw a beautiful camping area. The sites are wide, some have tree cover some don’t, all have 30 and 50 amp electrical services and there is water every 200 feet or so. We followed wild turkey tracks left in the snow around the circle and stumbled upon site #22. It was beautiful and just what we were looking for. It’s right across from the bathrooms, and has this small stone wall just behind the picnic table. All the sites have fire rings and separate tent pads just in case the kids come to visit.
Even though the sun was shining, it was still cold so we walked back the car. As we were pulling out we noticed this beautifully clear trout stream just across from the camp ground.
Enjoy what’s left of Winter and remember, Spring is only about a month away!
