Summertime Fun at Brackley Beach, PE

On this slice of Prince Edward Island’s north shore on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, you can stroll the windswept dunes and admire  red sandstone cliffs and green rolling hills. If you love the water, you can push off from the shore at North Rustico in a kayak or deep-sea fishing charter. More than 300 miles of old Prince Edward Island Railway tracks have been pulled up to create the multi-use Confederation Trail for bicycling with virtually no grades. If golf is your game, there are 11 courses within a few minutes drive.

Brackley Beach is named for a government clerk who drowned in the bay in 1776. Part of the P.E.I. National Park, Brackley Beach is in the heart of the Cavendish region immortalized in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s coming of age story, Anne of Green Gables. The park maintains the original Green Gables House.

The provincial capital of Charlottetown is just 15 minutes away, with its Victorian downtown and historic buildings instrumental in the formation of Canada in the 1860s. The Cavendish Beach Music Festival is the highlight of the summer season, drawing the top names in country music to the island.
