Set Sail for Seward, Alaska

Wildlife Cruise around Resurrection Bay in Alaska

No trip to Alaska is complete without a visit to Seward, which sits on the Kenai Peninsula’s rocky, mountainous, glacier-dominated eastern coast. Seward is located on the shores of Resurrection Bay and in the foothills of the Kenai Mountains. Its harbor bustles with cruise ships, fishing charters, tour boats and sailing expeditions, which all arrive and depart here. Eclectic shops, cafes and restaurants aptly service a non-stop throng of international visitors.

If you head to Seward, make sure to explore Kenai Fjords National Park just outside of town for amazing views of marine wildlife and calving glaciers. Keep in mind that in this region, summer temperatures tend to range between the mid-40s and the high 70s, so always dress in layers so that you can easily adjust as the temperature fluctuates. Don’t forget about the sun, either. Light reflected off the water and ice can be very intense, so it is still important to wear sunglasses and keep the sun screen handy.

Visit the  SeaLife Center to learn more about the wildlife that fourishes in Alaska.

The Alaska SeaLife Center, found on Seward’s southern edge, is one of the most popular attractions in the entire state of Alaska. Part research center, part animal rehabilitation center and part visitor center, it provides an opportunity to learn about the region’s marine life and biodiversity through a series of interactive tours, exhibits and displays.

The Alaska SeaLife Center is Alaska’s only public aquarium. Experience, explore and discover the unique marine world of puffins, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, giant Pacific octopi and more. Alaska’s coastline extends over 6,640 miles—more than all of the US Coastal states combined. It’s a great chance to experience the diversity of life in these northern waters.
