While it’s always helpful to have a battery tester (http://goo.gl/WkM96l) to identify weak batteries, it’s even better when you can recharge the failing units and use them all over again. With the brilliant Sanyo Eneloop (http://goo.gl/CW5KvI) series, we can finally get quality rechargeable batteries that work the way we want – over and over again. Stop wasting money on disposable batteries. These are the best rechargeable batteries you can buy.
When Sanyo began developing the Eneloop series of batteries in 2005, they built a better mousetrap. We’ve been using Eneloop batteries for years. The first batteries we purchased a few years ago are still going strong. I use both AA and AAA in our devices.
With the Eneloop series, Sanyo has vastly improved rechargeable battery performance. Depending on which model you choose, these can be recharged anywhere between 1000 and 1500 times. What’s more, they hold their charge for long periods of time.
The standard Sanyo Eneloop will maintain 75% of its charge even after three years of non-use! So when you grab a charged Eneloop battery, you’ll have confidence it will deliver the power you need. Also there’s no downside to leaving the batteries inside your device for an extended period of time. (With that said, as a matter of personal policy I remove batteries from devices that are going into long term storage.)
What makes these batteries different? Eneloop uses Nickel and Mercury Hydride as the foundation of the energy cells. The chemical makeup of Ni-MH batteries eliminates the “memory effect” – which means the cells can be recharged at any time without having to be fully discharged.
Sanyo has posted a chart that illustrates typical savings when using Eneloop batteries instead of disposable batteries. They speculate that one set of batteries could save as much as $950 over a ten year period of time.
Of course it all depends on how often you purchase disposable batteries, but there’s no doubt that Eneloop are a better long term choice than disposable. It’s sort of like making your own coffee instead of paying $4 a cup down at the local espresso shop. Over time the dollars really add up.
Obviously Eneloop batteries are better for the environment. Instead of tossing disposables, you can reuse Eneloops batts for many years.
In the old days, the reality of rechargeable batteries always fell short of the promise. I bought lots of off-brand rechargeable batteries in the past, and they all ended up failing and/or losing charge. But Sanyo Eneloop are the real deal. We buy these without hesitation and have always been pleased.
