NASCAR Revs Up for Tailgating Fun in 2021

Cars hurtle around a track.

NASCAR is planning to welcome RV tailgaters to see their favorite drivers compete at top tracks in 2021. The racing organization released their 2021 Cup Racing schedule in September, with tracks observing COVID precautions where applicable.

Daytona International Speedway

In February, the iconic Daytona International Speedway track heats up with several major Cup races. Check out Dual 1 and Dual 2 at Daytona (both on February 11) as well as the Daytona 500 (February 14). The Clash at Daytona RC (February 9) is run on the Daytona International Speedway Road Course.

With 31-degree banks and storied history, the legendary track is a favorite among motorsports fans. It also caters to RV travelers. A top parking spot for fans is Lot 7, located at the corner of Bill France Blvd. and Clyde Morris Blvd. Close to Daytona, Good Sam Parks include Nova Family Campground and Sugar Mill Ruins Travel Park in New Smyrna Beach, and Coral Sands Oceanfront RV Resort in Ormond Beach.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube revs up on March 7 on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Sin City’s 1.5-mile tri-oval. The track is famous for its 60,00 square-foot media center and inside road course. RV parking is available in nearby lots.

Several local Good Sam Parks cater to racing fans, including Arizona Charlie’s Boulder RV Park, Las Vegas RV Resort and LVM Resort.

Phoenix Raceway

The NASCAR Cup Series Race (March 14) at the Phoenix Raceway features some of the best RV stock car tailgating in the nation. Check out the infield or explore the area outside of the track with several campgrounds.

Talladega Superspeedway

Nearby Good Sam Parks include Desert Shadows RV Resort and Phoenix Metro RV Park.

Talladega Superspeedway

Alabama’s NASCAR nirvana hosts the Geico 500 (April 25), and RV travelers can find several places for prime tailgating, including several infield camping lots. Alternatives include Legends Lane, on the southwest side of the property outside of Turn 1.

Local good Sam Parks include Carson Village Mobile Home & RV Park in Birmingham and Noccalula Falls Campground in Gadsden.

Kansas City Speedway

On May 2, the Sunflower State trembles with high-octane power as drivers converge for the NASCAR Cup Series Race at the Kansas Speedway. Located about 15 miles from downtown Kansas City, Kansas, the track is adjacent to the Legends Outlet for shopping and dining. Also nearby is the Hollywood Casino, a popular gambling destination. Before buying tickets, check the availability of camping in the Geico Reserved Infield, which offers unparalleled views of the 1.5-mile tri-oval track. Also offering great views are the Geico Backstretch Motorhome Terrace, Geico Turn 1 Terrace and Geico Turn 3 Terrace.

Find Good Sam camping at Walnut Grove RV Park in nearby Merriam and across the state border at Owl Creek Market & RV Park (formerly Country Gardens RV) in Odessa, Missouri.

Dover International Speedway

The high banks and tight spaces of the one-mile Dover International Speedway in the First State make it challenging for drivers, but that won’t stop them from competing in the Drydene 400, May 16. The track is acclaimed for having what is considered by many the best viewpoint in the NASCAR world: The bridge stretching over the entry to Turn 3 just 29 feet above the track surface.

Camping options include Geico Campground Lot 2, just steps from the Fanzone and the Monster Monument — a giant statue of the track’s mascot, “Miles.” Campground Lot 7 sits close to the Earnhardt Grandstand and Xfinity State in the midst of all the action.

Nearby Good Sam Parks: Holly Lake Campsites and Massey’s Landing in Millsboro.

Sonoma Raceway

NASCAR drivers showcase their skills on this 2.5-mile road course during the Toyota Save Mart 350, June 6. Situated just 30 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge and near 100-plus wineries, the Sonoma Raceway often boasts a pre-race show featuring the Patriots Jet Team air show performing gravity-defying aerobatics. Camping is available in several distinct areas, including the Carousel Campground, located in the track’s “infield,” and Cougar Mountain Campground, situated at the base of Cougar Mountain and enjoying spectacular views of both the Sonoma Valley and the San Francisco Bay.

Nearby Good Sam parks include Novato RV Park in Novato and Tradewinds RV Park of Vallejo in Vallejo.

Texas Motor Speedway

See the cream of the crop during the NASCAR All-Star Open June 13 at the Texas Motor Speedway just north of Forth Worth. Race fans can watch the action on the 1.5-mile track — or on the 20,633-square-foot Big Hoss TV, the world’s largest high-definition LED video board, which looms over the track’s backstretch. Big Hoss’ 4.8 million-pixel resolution delivers NASCAR action in stunning resolution.

Boasting prime spots like the Lone Star Circle, there’s something to meet every budget and RV requirement. Luxurious Burnout Alley remains legendary with RVers in the know in that it’s the home of expansive motorcoach sites that sit right on the always busy backstretch.

Nearby Good Sam Parks include Lakeview RV & MH Community in Fort Worth and Traders Village RV Park in Grande Prairie.

Pocono Raceway. Photo: Zach Catanzareti Photo

Pocono Raceway

Known as “The Tricky Triangle,” the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, challenges drivers to its trademark sharp angles during the NASCAR Cup Series Race at Pocono 1 and 2, June 20 and 26, respectively. The 2.5-mile course forces drivers to navigate challenging turns, but racers can still top 200 mph at the end of the front straight. Nestled in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, the raceway treats NASCAR buffs to a slew of off-track diversions.

The RVer-friendly track sees fans returning to the same “neighborhood” every year for generations. Varied camping options may be available inside and outside Pocono Raceway, including new solar-powered energy hookups and trackside camping between Turns 2 and 3.

Good Sam Parks near the Pocono Raceway include Four Seasons Campgrounds in Scotrun and Silver Valley Campsites in Saylorsburg.

Atlanta Motor Speedway

The Quaker State 400 shakes things up on July 11 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton. The venue has several camping spots, although restrictions have currently been placed on infield camping and other areas.

Good Sam Parks in the area include Atlanta South RV Resort in McDonough and Forest Glen Mobile Home & RV Park in Jackson. Both parks are located on Interstate 75.

Watkins Glenn International

Race fans head to the Finger Lakes region of New York for the Go Bowling at the Glen race, August 8, at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen. During racing competition, the rolling hills of “the Glen” transform into stand-alone communities composed of dedicated race fans. There are several unique options for camping, including trackside parking spots and family areas. In recent years, the track expanded its infield Pit Road RV camping area, complete with full hookups. These sites put campers near the paddock, pit lane and infield activity. Check to see if this area is available.

Area Good Sam Parks: Camp Bell Campground in Campbell and Sunflower Acres Family Campground in Addison.

Charlotte Motor Speedway

Renowned as one of NASCAR’s most famous tracks, this venue hosts the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff Race on October 10. During racing season, weekends in the Speedway feature several fan activities near the main entrance. And with several affordable camping spaces within sight of the track — as well as popular infield RV sites — it’s convenient for RVing fans.

Stay at a nearby Good Sam Park, including Camping World Racing Resort adjacent to the track or Crown Cove RV Park in nearby Fort Mill.
