More on Dawson City

Dawson City–a historic time capsule from days gone by when countless folks caught a bad case of gold fever and impetuously set out to strike it rich quick.  Learn all about them and their lifestyle during a quick trip north of the border, in nostalgic Dawson City.

While Jack London didn’t strike gold here, the adventures from his time in the legendary Klondike gained him unbelievable fame and incredible wealth.  His adventures were uniquely portrayed in his exciting short stories and books, which quickly made him famous.  A replica of his cabin was built out of the logs from his original cabin, where he transcribed many of his books.  The replicated cabin (shown above) is now conveniently located at an interpretive site right in Dawson City.  Take a walk through time, in the nearby Jack London Museum, where you’ll glean some amazing facts about the author’s fascinating life and the stories surrounding the eventual discovery of his cabin.

While you are in town, you won’t want to miss out on the historic Odd Fellows Hall, home of the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC).  The Odd Fellows Hall boasts a fascinating public art gallery and serves as a hot venue for various performing arts productions.  You can catch many shows, festivals, and fun events here, all year long, including the annual Dawson City Short Film Festival in April and The Yukon Riverside Arts Festival in August.

Witness some stellar historical exhibits, while visiting “The Dawson City Museum” and nearby “Firefighters Museum.”   Covering from the time that the city suddenly came into existence at the start of the Gold Rush, the museum’s displays portray aspects relating to early mining history and the lifestyle of the town’s early residents.  Fascinating exhibits include a directory of gold seekers, turn of the century trains, and artifacts relating to the everyday life of the early settlers.  The nearby Firefighters Museum’s exhibits include horse-drawn (water) pumpers and vintage fire engines.

Since there is so much more to do and see here in the lovely Dawson City, stay tuned for more….
