Big Buddy combines radiant heat with convection heat air flow for maximum heating efficiency. A built-in blower fan circulates heated air. The blower fan operates on 4D-cell batteries or with optional 6-volt A/C adapter.
Now, about that fan… Frankly, users have mixed opinions about the effectiveness of the fan. In fact, some would say that the fan is a waste of time and D batteries. But thankfully, the fan is really not necessary because Big Buddy kicks out BIG HEAT. While folks may quibble about the fan, no one denies that Big Buddy is a heat volcano (without all the unpleasant lava).
Big Buddy has several heat settings that allow one to control heat levels according to need. The four-position heat control features a camping-style Piezo ignition (you know the type – just push and click). It offers pilot/lo/med/hi settings.
Yes, Big Buddy is indoor safe. These units boast a built-in low oxygen sensor and a tip over switch to ensure safe and reliable operation. The “Mr Heater” line of indoor safe propane units is well respected for its safety features. When it comes to safety, Mr Heater doesn’t joke around. (Mrs Heater would not approve.)
BIG Buddy features an easy-carry handle that’s built right in to the top of the unit. But note that Big Buddy tips the scales at 17.5 pounds, so you probably won’t care to tote this rock up Mount Everest without a strong sherpa. Check out the Little Buddy for that job.
The front of the Big Buddy unit is trimmed with heavy-duty safety wire. The wire guards the face of the unit for added tile protection and improved durability while traveling.
The dual ceramic burner tiles have shock absorbing insulation – not that we recommend playing basketball with Big Buddy, but he should ride along in your rig just fine. Big Buddy’s heat reflector is coated with porcelain for extended life.
Big Buddy has a hose storage bay that allows the convenient storage of optional connection hoses that range up to 12 feet long. The hose length means you can get creative when it comes time to feed Big Buddy some fuel.
If you want to simply use one pound tanks, a swivel regulator mount makes the cylinder installation easy. But attaching refillable tanks, of course, will offer the most economical heating solution over the long term.
