Stuff… We all have our stuff.

We all like new stuff. Certainly the holiday season often brings a wave of new stuff into our homes. This is normal and can be a lot of fun.

We buy new stuff for a reason – usually because it satisfies some existing need. There’s no doubt that owning the right products makes RV camping much more enjoyable. At Long Long Honeymoon we acquire and test new products every day, and celebrate those that are especially useful.

Alas, we don’t always like getting rid of the old stuff. It requires effort, both physical and mental. Therein lies the problem.

So what happens? Over time, stuff accumulates. It expands to fill whatever space is available. We often keep it longer than necessary. It fills our closets, our drawers, and our garages.

Over time, it’s easy to become weighed down by stuff. The clutter can be controlling. There’s a memorable line in the movie Fight Club: “The things you own end up owning you.”

As RV travelers, we understand this concept all too well. With the limited storage space available in the average RV, there’s no sense in accumulating a lot of stuff. Not unless you like paying a lot of monthly fees for storage units.

Even if we have a brick-and-mortar home, do we want to pack it full of clutter?

Often we cling to objects that have long since lost their utility. The reasons are varied. We may perceive some monetary value in the items, or we may harbor some sentimental attachment. Too much of this stuff and the home is devalued. Worse, our lives are devalued.

One of my personal resolutions for the new year will be to do some serious decluttering. Keeping clutter at bay requires ongoing vigilance. Hopefully this free ebook will help. Getting Rid of It looks like an excellent guide and motivator.

The book is free until December 28, so grab it while it lasts.
