The Cape May-Lewes Ferry offers RV travelers a unique and enjoyable break from the road. There is no better way to travel between Delaware and New Jersey. This ferry might just be the best 85 minutes of your day’s journey. Sit back, relax and take in the amazing maritime scenery of historic lighthouses, beautiful harbors and ocean-going vessels, all while enjoying a cocktail on the sunset lounge. Chances are you might even see dolphins, and if you are lucky possibly a whale sighting.
The Cape May-Lewes Ferry offers great service and comfortable accommodations, both indoor and outside. Special events, holiday festivities, and live music are some of the onboard activities. In 2018, the ferry was recognized as one of seven of the most scenic rides in the U.S. by the Smithsonian Institute. It also was inducted into the Trip Advisor Hall of Fame.
Fun on the Bay
No matter which direction you are headed, there is plenty of fun to be had on each side of the Delaware Bay. At the Cape May and Lewes terminal, you will find dockside restaurants, festivals, live music and free outdoor community summer concerts. Exciting changes are coming in Spring 2020 for the Lewes Terminal, when renovations should be completed and the grand opening of Grain on the Rocks.
If you are at an RV Park in one state, take a day trip on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to the other side. It is roughly a 3-hour round trip. There are plenty of activities and special events on either side for the entire family. New this year are bike rentals at each terminal. A shuttle service from the terminals also is available at certain times for travel into the towns of Lewes or Cape May.
The ferry operates 365 days a year. Costs will vary, but based on two seniors, with a vehicle total of 50 feet (motorhome and car), the cost for a one-way trip is $81. This price does include a discount for seniors over 62.
