The town is hosting its annual Bluegrass in the Spring Festival and offers a two-day camping special. Two days of camping May 6th and 7th is $100 for all types of camping — dry or with full hook-up. You will enjoy not only the beautiful surrounding views you’ll also get free admission into the town and the Bluegrass in the Spring Festival Event for up to six persons per unit.
If you’ve never been to Calico, you’ll enjoy touring the Old West silver mining town, scene of the largest silver strike in California. On May 7th-8th, the town will be filled with around the clock live music performances from Bluegrass music’s finest artists. Featured performers will be Chris Stuart, Robert Richter, The Tumbling Tumbleweeds and many more. The fun will begin Saturday May 7th at 9 a.m. and will run until 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 8th.
Children of all ages will enjoy the contests and games at the Ghost Town taking place over the weekend. They will be able to walk through Maggie’s Mine and see what it was like to live and mine at Calico during the 1880’s. There is also the Mystery Shack, gold panning, a ride on the Calico-Odessa Railway and Calico’s newest attraction, the Sioux Falls Climbing Wall.
Throughout the weekend, families will be entertained by gunfight re-enactments that will demonstrate how things got “settled” back in the days of the old West.
If you like wide-open spaces and a place to ride ATVs, dirt bikes, motorcycles and the like, Calico offers open access to Bureau of Land Management trails just off the camping area.
