The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and Indiana Dunes State Park are a nature lover’s paradise. Starting in Burns Harbor and stretching 25 miles east along the southern shores of Lake Michigan, the parks are a popular destination for visitors. Comprised of more than 15,000 acres of dunes, oak savannas, swamps, bogs, marshes, prairies, rivers and forests, the Indiana Dunes offers a wide variety of year-round activities. Summer is an ideal time to build sand castles and admire Lake Michigan sunsets. The Calumet Bike Trail is especially pretty in late summer and early fall. The colors of fall can be enjoyed from late September through October. Bird watching is especially interesting during spring and fall migrations.

At 126 feet high and moving inward at an average rate of four feet per year, Mt. Baldy is the largest moving dune within Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
