5 Fabulous Cleaning Shortcuts for RVers
The less time and energy spent tidying up the RV, the more time for fun and adventures. Maximize your space and make your RVing trips more enjoyable with these 5 Fabulous Cleaning Shortcuts for RVers.
Vertical Space — Keeping a clean RV has a lot to do with how you use your space. By maximizing your space, you can employ these simple tricks for storing items without using precious floor/cupboard space.
- Use hideaway hooks for outer wear that won’t take up space when not in use.
- Use a hanging fruit basket for a catch-all for keys, sunglasses, etc.
- Use brackets to attach tools and/or cleaning accessories to the ceiling in your storage compartments for storing longer items, such as mops, brooms, etc.
- Hang storage compartment/organizers to the backs of your two front seats.
- Use velcro, suction cups and mason jars to your advantage by organizing small things. Use velcro to keep remote controls and cell phones corralled in one location. Velcro can also be utilized when hanging hoses or other long, burdensome items that take up a lot of storage space.
- Install a shelf system above your kitchen and/or toilet. This allows for extra storage space for light items, such as toilet paper, paper towels, bath towels, etc.
- Get creative and use a wire hanger to corral bathroom items, a flat toilet paper holder for low profile towel hangers, etc.
- Install a peg board in your kitchen for hanging utensils and other cooking items.
- Hang a fruit and veggie hammock/basket.
- Use magnetic strips for hanging knives and scissors.
- Use dish cradles for storing dishes.
Doors/Cabinets
- Get crafty by using the insides of your doors/cabinets to store items used often, which cuts down on clutter and makes cleaning a breeze.
- A shoe organizer can easily be attached to the inside of a closet door for organizing shoes and other small items.
- Emergency flashlights are made more accessible when you install broom holders to the inside of a cabinets to put your flashlights within easy reach.
- Command hooks can be added to the inside of kitchen cabinets to organize and hang cooking utensils.
- Use command strips to attach organizers/PVC pipes to inside of medicine cabinet for storing toiletries an
d toothbrushes. - Use elastic and staples to keep the first aid supplies in one place and secure in the cabinet.
- Add slide-out surfaces and drawers where possible, for quick and easy clean ups.
Trash Cans
Line your trashcans with multiple bags at once and keep the roll in the bottom of the wastebasket for easy refills. I also have an aunt who reuses the same bag if it hasn’t gotten too soiled, by simply dumping the trash and leaving the existing bag in it for multiple uses.- Install an over-the-counter trashcan for the bathroom to save space and also for easy clean up that isn’t going to get knocked over.
Vacuums
- Keep a handheld vacuum handy (ideally attached to the wall/ceiling in the bathroom or closet) for quick and easy clean up for after a sandy day at the beach or after the kids or grandkids eat lunch.
Beds
- Keep multiple layers of sheets on the bed for easy changes (without having to remake the entire bed). This comes in especially handy if you have a potty-training child sleeping in one of the beds. I learned this when night-training my son (who is still not 100% night-trained). If they wake up soaking wet in the middle of the night, its not a big deal, since you strip the sheets down to the waterproof mattress cover. Thus revealing a clean set of dry sheets, with yet another mattress cover under those. This is my personal fav of the 5 Fabulous Cleaning Shortcuts for RVers.
