RV Weekly Round-Up (February 7-13, 2009)

Today is the start of a new series that will highlight some of the preceding week’s top RV articles from various online sources. Only articles/videos of interest to the RV industry or RV community will be on this list. This series will be a sort of “mini-index” of hot new RV content for the week.

1. California Bans Formaldehyde-based RV Toilet Chemicals: Toilet products containing formaldehyde can no longer be used or sold in California. These non-biodegradable products are commonly used in chemical toilets in RVs, boats, RV Parks and campgrounds to counteract holding tank odors.

2. Happening NOW! Mid-America RV Show this weekend in Kansas City, MO.: Don’t miss the largest RV show in the Midwest. Held at the Kansas City Convention Center Feb. 12-15. Buy a ticket to the RV show and get in to the Boat Show for free!

3. A modified FEMA Trailer serves as a mobile art exhibit at Rice University: Visual artist Paul Villinski developed this concept of the emergency response studio after spending several months in New Orleans in summer 2006. *This story was published last month but I’ve included it for its noteworthy subject matter.

4. RV/MH Hall of Fame Announces 2009 Inductees: The 10 honored individuals will be inducted Aug. 3 in Elkhart, IN. Congratulations and a hearty ‘thank you’ for your contributions to the industry!

5. President Obama in Elkhart: Obama traveled to the “RV capital of the World” Elkhart, IN. Unemployment has more than tripled in a year to 15.3% as the recession impacts the local RV industry. Read about what took place during his visit.
