With a perfect 10/10*/10 Good Sam Rating, Rayford Crossing qualifies as a Top Rated RV Park, according to the editors and consultants of the 2013 Good Sam RV Travel Guide and Campground Directory.
The high quality becomes evident to guests soon after they enter the park’s gates. After taking care of business at the front office, guests are led to their RV site by a crew member riding in a golf cart. Once the rig is parked, the staffer gives the campsite’s picnic table a wipe-down, hoses off the water spigot and removes the sewer cap. After settling in, guests can peruse a menu of concierge services, from firewood delivery to dinner reservations in Houston, just 15 minutes away. Did we mention the onsite dog-grooming service?
Owner Gwen Craig says that the full-service RV experience has been an integral part of the 112-space resort since it opened in 2005. “We wanted to build a park that provided more services to customers,” says Craig, who purchased the land with her husband in 1999. “There wasn’t anybody out there who was doing a lot of that.”
Craig says staff training is one of the key components to giving customers a luxury experience. Before employees go to work at Rayford Crossing, they’re put through their paces at Timber Ridge Village, a smaller park owned by the Craigs.
“Staff have to have a bit of class,” says Craig. “They need to know how to address guests. We really stress that on the front end. We have a couple of interviews with them.”
Travelers also come from as far north as Canada to enjoy the Lone Star State’s warm climate during the October-through-March “winter Texan” season. As snowbirds fill spaces, the campground rolls out a slate of winter activities.
“We have an activities director on board and a committee of winter Texans who come in and work with the front desk,” says Craig. “We do a cruise every year and overnight casino trips.” When summer rolls around, the campground shifts gears to accommodate the younger set, including families with children.
