Every 2 or 3 weeks I’m making another post in this series about the top states for RV friendly casinos. So far I’ve listed Mississippi, California and Nevada. This week we’ll move to a new region – the Midwest.
When I think of states being RV friendly in general the western states come to mind; however, when you add casinos to the picture many midwestern states look attractive. Some have casinos conveniently scattered, so it’s easy to plan a route on most any major highway and find a casino where you can stop for the night. The state featured this week is an example of this. They have over a dozen RV friendly casinos along 3 interstates major US highways. Which state is it?
IOWA!
Are you surprised? I have to admit that I was. I try to watch myself and avoid only reporting on states where we’ve visited frequently, and we’ve only spent one night at an Iowa casino. When I look at our Google map of RV friendly casinos I see little red markers all over Iowa, and they seem convenient to almost every part of the state. Accommodations range from free overnight in a parking lot to full hookups in an RV resort. Here are a few examples:
Terrible’s Lakeside Casino, Osceola, IA — Not far from I-35, this FHU RV resort is very popular, and it’s first-come so be there early if you want a place to park on the weekend! I’m told this is a beautiful area, and the fishing is great on the lake.
Isle of Capri Casino, Bettendorf, IA — Near Davenport on I-80, allows free overnight RV parking. They also run a shuttle to their other casino in the area, the musically-themed Rhythm City Casino.
Winna Vegas Casino, Sloan, IA — South of Sioux City off I-29 has level parking with electric only for $7/night.
Isle of Capri Casino, Waterloo, IA — Near I-380 and US-20 on the south side of Waterloo, allows overnight parking at no charge.
These and others are listed on my website at www.casinocamper.com/iowa.htm. Take a look, and if you know of a RV Friendly casino that I’ve missed let me know.
Happy travels and good luck in the casinos,
