Silos KOA, Townsend, Montana

Recently, we spent 2 weeks parked on the shores of Canyon Ferry Lake near the capitol city of Helena, MT.  While we have always lived in the Helena area, when we would go camping it would always be hours away – and never stayed at local campgrounds!  One place that we have stayed since camping ‘around home’ is the Silos at Canyon Ferry Lake KOA located between Helena and Townsend, Montana, on the north shore of Canyon Ferry Lake.

The Silos KOA is a small park; small enough that you will most likely meet it’s owner.  The Silos has full-hookup r.v. sites (also electric and tent) along with kamping kabins, features a laundry room, restrooms with showers, a playground, and has a little store that sells everything from milk and eggs to fishing licenses (and live leaches).   The facilities are clean and well kept.

One part of this KOA is an on-site, seasonal restaurant.  The Flamingo Grill is a little diner that offers hamburgers and desserts ~ and their unique Chocolate Nachos, which are deep fried tortillas sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and drizzled with chocolate syrup, served with soft serve chocolate ice cream to dip them in.   Also popular are the huckleberry milkshakes. The most interesting part of the grill is the flamingo pink school bus that has been converted into a dining room.

Decorated in pink and black, and festooned with everything flamingo, the bus makes a cozy eating area.

Within easy walking distance from Canyon Ferry Lake and the Silos Marina, The Silos KOA is a launching point for water sports.  It also offers opportunities to view some of our wildlife like the ever present antelope, and the rogue cow elk that is frequently seen meandering through the surrounding fields.  Our Big Sky Country offers so much to experience – incredible scenery, clean fresh air, nature at it’s finest, and some of the friendliest folks you’ll find anywhere.    You can also find other local RV parks by doing a quick search at Woodall’s Campground Search. Keep in mind tho, that if you are planning a visit to the Helena area (a 30 min. drive from the KOA), which is full of wonderful touring opportunities, you may just find that the very nice Lincoln Road RV Park is a bit more convenient. 🙂
