The convenience of a coffee machine

Starting tomorrow in Canada, it’s the anniversary sale at Wal-Mart.   And on the first page of the flyer, our eyes saw the special for a Keurig machine like the one we have at home.   69$ Canadian.  Hmmmm.   We are seriously thinking of purchasing one of the trailer when we are away from home.

Like I mentioned, we have one at home but bringing it back and forth is a little bit inconvenient.   The risk of breaking it increases as well.   We use the one at home often – whether to make coffee, tea or simply boiling water.   My husband especially likes it when we have to boil water for noodles.  We put a bit in the bottom of the pot and start the top of the oven.  Then with the help of the Keurig and the kettle, we boil water and incorporate it in the pot.   Seems silly at first hand but we find that the boiling process is faster when we do so.

At the trailer, we have a dinky kettle that sings when it reaches the boiling level when it’s on the gas oven.   It’s my old kettle in a form of a fish that I used to have when I was in university.   Problem is with the heat of the gas oven, the plastic at the spout is slowly melting.   So I am thinking it’s time to get rid of it.

Which brings me back to the Keurig on sale… Should we invest and purchase one for the trailer?  We realize after checking the watts usage of the Keurig we have at home that we won’t be able to use the air conditioning at the same time (just like when we use the microwave).  And honestly it’s no big deal.  But our counter space is limited and I wonder how if it’s wise to get a Keurig.

I love the versatility of the Keurig – you can purchase k-cups , use a special multiuse k-cup that you can refill with coffee as you want or you can decide to have only hot water as well.   I would definitively love to have a choice of coffee in the morning when I am in the mood for one.

I am curious of how other RVers are dealing with their coffee making while on the road.  What are you using?  Do you own a simple kettle, did you decide to get a basic coffee machine or did you decide to purchase a machine like the Keurig (and I know there are many out there!)?   Please share your thoughts on this.
