Tech Topics: Stable Cables for Towed Vehicles

Cables

The various cables from my coach to my towed vehicle kept getting frayed when exiting or entering a service station that was a bit higher than the highway. The angle sometimes caused the cables to end up crushed between the dropped receiver and the driveway.

My permanent fix for this was to install two pieces of angle iron 1⁄4-inch higher than the bottom of the receiver, secured with the same huge bolt that secures the receiver to my tow bar. This pair of “shelves” keeps the cables out of harm’s way. Wire ties, of course, complete the installation.
