Surrounded by Family

I was in my 20’s and single back then. My brother’s in-laws had a big old truck camper, and the whole family decided to take a long weekend together in it. The family consisted of my brother, his wife, her parents, her grandmother, my parents, myself and…oh yes, three poodles.

Don’t ask me how we did it, but somehow all of us fit into that camper…to sleep, to eat, etc. The bathroom consisted of a covered pail that we all shared…and every day some unlucky soul had the pleasure of emptying it in the nearby woods.

Maybe it’s because I was young. Maybe it’s because I was surrounded by family love. Maybe it’s because it was my first camping trip. But that was THE best weekend!!! There was fresh air, bacon and eggs every morning, coffee over a campfire…it was simply wonderful.

I’m 67 now. And I’ve been camping ever since. That first happy but primitive experience was the beginning of a lifelong love of RVing. I have criss-crossed the US countless times, have been able to visit friends and family, and have been lucky enough to enjoy the beauty of our national parks and our country. I have volunteered in state parks and work camped, too. Yes, RVing has given me a wonderful life…and although I’m older now…it ain’t over yet!

We just bought an older Country Coach and next month will be leaving for a 4 month adventure in it. I can’t wait!!!

I started there and over the years, as most do, worked my way up. The first trip I took on my own was in a tent. I only did that once. Then I moved on to a popup camper, then to a small trailer, a larger trailer, a fifth wheel, a gas engine motorhome and from there I went on to own three diesel pushers.

It’s been a great ride.
