Spring….ahhh, what a sweet time to take a deep breath of fresh, brisk springtime air and truly enjoy time off from rushed mornings, routines, school, etc. With Spring break comes a unique opportunity to leave your hectic lifestyle in exchange for a few days of relaxed time outdoors, camping, biking and enjoying the warmer weather! This escape provides a break, not only for you, but also for your kids, and offers an excellent opportunity to do the things you have been wanting to do with your kids, but school has just gotten in the way.
Here are my top 3 places to visit while on Spring Break:
1) The Beach/Lake/River
Pack up the camper with your swim gear, including inner tubes, fishing poles and beach umbrellas. Everyone will enjoy a day or more at the water, for a refreshing and fun experience doing whatever it is your family likes to do, whether it’s building sand castles or surfing the beach break. Now’s the time when those swimming lessons you have been faithfully taking your kids to, finally pays off! It’s time to put their swimming skills to the test, while on spring break!
2) Hike/Bike Ride/Backpacking Trip
Whether you enjoy spending days out in the back country or just an hour or two, taking a hike and/or bike trip is well-worth the effort associated with packing the food, sunblock, and carrying the smaller ones that are too small to walk/ride. I have heard it said that a physically fit child should be able to hike one mile for every year they are old. So, ideally, my 4 year old should be able to tackle 4 miles in a day. So that can be a 2-mile hike in and 2-miles out! If its a hilly trail you choose, then subtract a mile or two, depending on the elevation gain.
3) Visit a National Park
There are many beautiful National Parks nation-wide that are just waiting for visitors to come and experience their splendor. Take Yosemite, for example. You can pack up the RV and spend several days exploring the various trails, waterfalls, and beautiful sites every where you look. My personal favorite was Vernal Falls (pictured above). It is a doable hike while carrying little ones and the older kids can at least make it to the first bridge. At the top of the Falls, there is a nice little pool to soak tired feet and enjoy a picnic lunch.
