RV Weekly Round-Up (March 28-April 3, 2009)

Check out these highlights of RV-related news, events and video from this past week.

Countdown to The Rally: 14 days!

1. Family Packs RV for 50 States in 50 Weeks: The Bacon family of San Diego has checked off 38 states from their list so far, and is currently in Nevada in advance of the final 12 states on their journey. Sons Arthur, 12, and Henry, 10, have been home-schooled in the ’07 Monaco Knight, getting plenty of first-hand lessons about geography and history. Follow the Bacon family’s adventure at their website, www.baconacrossamerica.com, where they post photos and blogs about their travels.

2. Tips for Keeping Water Fresh in an RV: Instructions for sanitizing your RV’s freshwater supply system to prevent a build-up of nasty bacteria, brought to you by Good Sam RV Emergency Road Service.

3. Trailer Towing in Windy Conditions: Blogger Mark Polk discusses the common causes of trailer sway and offers advice on what you can do to travel safely when towing a trailer. Check out the reader comments and get in on the conversation by posting your own thoughts and experiences on the matter!

4. When Things go Wrong, Enjoy the Adventure: This week’s “Long Long Honeymoon” video from Sean & Kristy Michael explores the highlights of RV camping in Argentina…and when things go wrong, Sean reminds us to enjoy the emerging “adventure” and laugh about the situation. Think of it as a great story to tell the folks back home!

5. RVIA Surveys RV Owners: The RV Industry Association released the results of its biannual Campfire Canvass, revealing that 55 percent of survey respondents plan to use their RVs more this year than in 2008. Despite the battered economy, RVing remains a fantastic value for thousands of families when compared with the expense and hassle of air travel and hotel stays.
