Reasons why I love camping…

Our family has always camped.  Our oldest child was 8 months old when we took him camping for the first time.   We tent camped for several years, until we started having to take 2 rigs to haul all of us and our camping paraphernalia.  While some of the kids were big enough to help, it got to the point where Mom (me) didn’t want to camp because it just seemed like too much work.  But, because we had happily tent camped for years, we knew that we didn’t want to give up camping all together.   We were still hooked.

It didn’t take us long to find a travel trailer for our family; we actually bought the first one we looked at (not that I would recommend it, but it worked out for us).  Our trailer (and now our 5th wheel) allow us to go to places that we would otherwise never be able to afford to go.  It also allows us to ‘get away’ from the busyness of home and it’s responsibilities.   Buying an r.v. changed the way that we camped, and we have never regretted the decision to continue enjoying creation!

So, here are just a few reasons why I love camping:

*exploring new areas

*no commitments; the ability to make spur of the moment plans
*finding a new ‘favorite spot’ ~ we have lots! (you can search here for a new favorite spot for your family)
*getting a site next to a playground
*seeing the 2 year olds face when she sees that playground!
*meeting new ‘neighbors’
*setting up camp
*being ‘home’ but with a new backyard
*everything about the great outdoors (except the smell of bug spray)

*the smell of bug spray when it’s keeping friendly sand gnats and mosquitoes at bay
*rainy days in the camper when we all sit around eating pizza and popcorn while playing games
*the smell of the great outdoors after a cleansing rain

*taking a nap
*sleeping bags! (no unmade beds)
*going on long walks together with the baby sleeping in the front pack.
*my small kitchen (less space to clean)
*everyone pitching in to do the dishes – everyone working so that everyone can play
*being with my kids to share their discoveries

*being shown the SAME toad for the 17th time in the same afternoon

*watching my kids challenge themselves with harder hikes, longer swims, and farther bike rides; all while encouraging their sibling to do the same
*watching my kids come back from the pool/lake; their arms around each other, all talking at the same time and howling with laughter
*doing absolutely nothing
*having dessert AND S’mores
*smelling like campfire smoke

*climbing into my own bed (with my own bedding, and KNOWING when they were washed last)

*waking up to a wiry 4 year old trying to climb into my bed screeching “tackle Daddy” (and loving it because she’s not tackling ME!)

Sunsets are so much more beautiful when camping!

*how everyone is bummed when it’s time to tear down camp – so we start planning the next trip while we pack up
*cleaning and stocking the camper for the next trip
*when our big kids tell their younger siblings about trips that we took before the little ones were around; telling them, ‘just wait, you’ll get to do that too!’

*when DH and I look at each other simultaneously, both with the the same ‘this is so cool!’ look on our faces
*when our kids tell us ‘THIS IS SO COOL’!  And we know that they love it just as much as we do.

~these are just a few reasons why we love to camp together as a family!  We have so many great camping memories, and are loving making new ones!

We would love to hear some of the reasons that you love to r.v./camp too!
