My husband, David, and I married just 2 weeks out of high school. He went into the Army and we had our family right away. Between his military career (24+ years) and the children we never really had many opportunities to spend time together with just the two of us. That’s why our 23rd wedding anniversary was so very special. We tented for years when the kids were younger, then eventually graduated to a pop up camper.
In May of 2007 he purchased a 30 ft travel trailer for me as an anniversary gift. It wasn’t brand new “off the lot” but you would never know that by looking at it, in fact it was already 2 years old. To me, it was the Taj Mahal of trailers. Queen bed, 2 slides, a very large bathroom, and a large and stylish kitchen; really top of the line. We went “camping” for our anniversary weekend in June that year and while he was piling wood for the campfire later I prepared a 7 course candle lit meal that included home made lasagna. That was nearly 3 years ago.
We still have the same trailer, it’s still my Taj Mahal and to this day he still talks about our weekend in Glennie, MI and the wonderful meal he got while camping. We look forward to every minute we can spend together camping. To us one of the most comforting and peaceful ways to enjoy each other’s company is camping…especially in Michigan.
