On the Trail…in Little Rock, Arkansas

For the month just ended I’ve been working on a project near Little Rock, Arkansas, my first-ever long-term experience in the area. I loved every part of it, except being in the weather map bulls-eye every day. Little Rock is right smack in the middle of Tornado Alley, and the weather did not disappoint this year.

Neither did my neighbors in the campground disappoint. Many of them had great stories to tell because they were prepositioned by the insurance companies they worked for to be ready on a moment’s notice to charge forth and make damage assessments for insurance purposes. In other words, the insurance companies know they are going to be busy in the Little Rock area this time of year, so they place casualty assessment teams in RVs in place waiting for the inevitable claims resulting from tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, hail storms, etc., etc., etc. These folks were plenty busy this year.

I took this picture of my neighbor’s truck, complete with its Allstate National Catastrophe Team placard, the day before I left. His was but one of several such vehicles in the RV park where I stayed.
