On the Trail…at Magnolia Plantation

The late Charles Kuralt, famed for decades of weekly reporting “On the Road” for CBS News, once described Magnolia Plantation near Charleston as his favorite place in South Carolina. Walking through the grounds, it’s easy to see why.

Acres of magnificent gardens border black-water ponds scattered throughout the grounds. For photographers working on a calm day, black-water ponds offer splendid opportunities for reflections, such as seen here in this picture of a bridge over the pond nearest to the plantation house. An assortment of bridges, mostly painted white except for this one, yield great subjects for reflection shots
