North to Alaska…Living in the Bulls-eye

BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA–For the past six weeks or so it has been real easy to figure out where I’m at. Just turn on the weather channel and look for the bulls-eye on the weather map. It’s the big red blob that indicates where the severe thunderstorms, flooding and tornadoes are most likely.  First there was a month in Little Rock, Arkansas, ground zero for tornado alley, and sharing the RV park with disaster teams from the various insurance companies. Now headed back north, I get to Indiana just in time for several days worth of weather excitement.

You’ve all heard the advice for dealing with tornadoes like take refuge in the basement. I somehow doubt that applies to basement model motorhomes. After considerable thought, I’ve decided about the best thing I can do if I find myself in the path of a tornado is hunker down in the nearest ditch. I may get kind of wet in the downpour, but I’ll probably survive.

Between storms, the sun has come out a few times. I grabbed this shot of one of only two or three double covered bridges in the country near Nashville, Indiana, a couple of days ago. The local version of Nashville is quite a place, offering big name country music entertainers, all kinds of artists galleries and one of the world’s greatest flea markets a few miles east of town. I’ve got to allow more time here the next time I come through.
