Madison is home to numerous attractions, including Four Freedoms Park, where a monument of the same name salutes hometown hero Captain Colin P. Kelly, a hero of World War II. Madison’s Rails to Trails Project, the Four Freedoms Trail, begins just north of the city and culminates in a picturesque overlook of the Withlacoochee River. Cycling enthusiasts will savor the lovely country roads with cycling lanes that form a 100-mile loop within the county.
Guided walking tours of the downtown historic district take visitors through the Livingston House (c. 1836), Madison’s oldest home, as well as various historic churches and markers. Madison County Courthouse (c. 1912) reflects the city’s rich architectural history. There is also a classic steam engine that has been operating since 1919.
