In 1869 the California Gold Rush came to Julian Californiawhen a man by the name of Fred Coleman stopped at a little creek and noticed gold. Soon after the discovery hundreds of people flocked to the town and it became a rough and tumble gold mining town. The heritage of this town is celebrated by all its locals and can be experienced by visitors as well. Tourists can go on a history hunt by picking up a guide from the city’s Town Hall. The guide is a questionnaire that sends you all across the town looking for answers. Julian is also known for the great tasting apple pies and one of the best places to have a slice of that apple pie is Moms. A famous hub for apple pies, Mom’s bakes around three hundred pies a day. To get a good perspective on what is was like mining for gold during the Gold Rush you can take a tour of the Eagle Gold Mine just outside of town.
