Hill Country Shooting Sports Center, Kerrville, TX

Earlier this month, our family had the opportunity to spend the day together at the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center near Kerrville, Texas.  With a great range in the heart of beautiful hill country, this center was an incredible family outing for our family!  The experiences that we were able to enjoy there have topped all of our previous range excursions, and it was due to the customer service that we received!  We were able to meet the director; he spent the day with us (the attention that traveling with 10 kids brings is not always bad!), and blessed us with a very special experience (which I’ll share in a minute)!

The Hill Country Shooting Sports Center is located on 140 acres just a few miles out of Kerrville, Texas, and is a full service range that hosts many national and international competition shoots and is a Olympic training site.  They also promote youth sport shooting including involvement with local 4-H groups.  They have a clubhouse/pro shop, and both the skeet, trap, and rifle and handgun ranges are located very closely to the clubhouse (which has a covered porch, providing shade during hot days).

Our entire family went to the range for the morning, and ended up staying for the afternoon too – we had such a great time!  Jack, the Executive Director, came and spent time with our family.  He loves to see families sport shoot together (the family that shoots together stays together :), and he had some special targets brought in just for the kids to use with Eli’s new .22 AR.  Then, he gave us an experience that we will always remember – he let us shoot his own H&K MP5 (a treat for dad since he brought the WHOLE family! LOL!)!!!  My guys were pretty stoked – after all, it is not every day that we get to shoot a fully automatic rifle!!!

The Hill Country Shooting Sports Center does not have onsite camping, but there are numerous rv parks located within a short distance – please be aware that the road into the center is not rv friendly  🙂  it is a smooth, paved road that is great for cars, trucks, vans…, but not accessible for rvs of any length – we would have never gotten our 40′ toy hauler in there! LOL!  But, it is definitely worth unhooking your toad and checking it out!  The range is located approximately one hour out of San Antonio, TX, in the quiet little town of Kerrville.  Kerrville is a great place to visit with it’s quaint shops, quiet streets, and friendly people; and the Hill Country Shooting Range is definitely a stop that we will go back to each time that we are in beautiful Texas hill country!!!
