Free Camping!

Okay so maybe the title of this article is a bit misleading! As I write this, I am sitting in my trailer in one of our swivel chairs while my wife is resting in the bed with the Hound of the Baskervilles (the original one with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce) playing in the background. We are doing a night of backyard camping thus the title “Free Camping!”. This is the night before Mothers Day and my wife has worked us both to the bone for her special day. Today, we went to our usual nursery’s (the ones with plants) and bought a bunch of flowers. Since the weather for Mothers Day is supposed to be rainy all day, she made certain that the flowers were all planted today.

I have lately been considering looking for a seasonal and have gone back and forth in my mind, but I think I am still leaning against it. I do see some advantages to having a seasonal such as being able to go any time to your camp site without having to hook-up to the tow vehicle. Also, it is a gas savings because one can go to their seasonal with an economy car. The problem from my perspective is that I can’t find a seasonal that is close enough for it to be convenient.

There is one place near me where people can purchase an actual lot. It intrigues me, but I don’t think I want to be tied down to that small parcel. So I decided that I have a pretty good seasonal right here in my back yard! The entire yard is fenced in. I have electricity and water. I even have wireless Internet which I am connected to right now while I type on my laptop. the only thing I need is some way of dumping at home. I don’t have that figured out yet, but I have some thoughts on that.

I finally figured out an activity for myself that I want to do while camping. I believe I’ve mentioned before that I had thought of finding a model to build while camping. I decided that I would build one from scratch. The model comes from an old TV show that I just love. It is called Space 1999 and in it, they had these space craft called Eagle Landers. They were pretty cool looking and so I did some research for some plans. It just happens that I stumbled onto the original creator of these models for the TV show. I contacted him and asked him if I could obtain some plans and it turns out that he is going to do just that for me! He seems very kind and I will be ever grateful for his efforts for me. I will post photos when I make some sort of progress.

I have some mods planned for our new Rockwood before our trip to Door County Wisconsin in June. I want to make some wheel chocks (the type that mount between the wheels). I want to do something with the ‘stinky slinky’. I need to organize the front pass-thru storage compartment. I need to connect my RV-Q grill just so I know how to use it. I need to make my homemade tie downs for our awning. I’m not totaly sold on that awning. Rockwoods come with a Dometic Electric Awning. I don’t think I would have picked one if I had the choice….but we will deal.

Thats about it for now. I am happy to back and hope you enjoy! Happy Mothers Day to all you Moms!

Happy Camping and see you next Sunday!
