Don't Tell My Wife – I Disconnected the Trailer Brakes

While stationed at Ft Gordon, Ga. in the 70’s, My fellow soldiers were interested in camping. We decided to try tent camping with two children.our first time was enough for my wife. We decided to purchase a small travel trailer.

After looking around we found a 15 foot Williams Craft. I asked the salesman if it had toilet facilities in it.He opened a small cabinet on the floor and pulled out a wood box with a toilet seat and plastic pail.We decided to make the purchase and waited while they did the paper work and electrical on the car. Our first outing was from Augusta, GA to Maggy Valley, SC and on to Myrtle Beach, SC.

The problem was every time I used the right turn signal the trailer brakes would come on.Needless to say, somewhat annoying. Not knowing anything about the wiring, I just disconnected the trailer brakes. A lot more fun that way driving through the mountains. I just told my wife I had fixed the problem.. After arriving back home I told her what I had done. We all had a good laugh and were glad to be back home again. We decided the trailer was to small so traded for a 19 foot Terry ad on to a 27 foot Coachmen.
