Besides contributing to Dogs for the Deaf, the Shanty Shakers keep busy doing good works in their community. Each year members travel to Dover, Delaware, to pick up trash and debris on the beach at Ted Harvey Conservation Area. And the chapter recently piloted a motorhome support vehicle at the Delaware Special Olympics Torch Run fundraiser, providing water, a bathroom and a place for runners to take a brief rest.
Like all Good Sam Club chapters, the Shanty Shakers love to travel in their RVs, from the Delaware and Mid-Atlantic Samborees to Assateague National Park and Washington, D.C. Twenty member families now make up the Shanty Shakers, and newcomers are always welcome. “We all try to make our new members feel that they belong,” proclaims the chapter’s website, shantyshakers.com. “We welcome you and your friends.”
The Shanty Shakers Good Sam chapter is one of half a dozen Delaware groups that meet for good times and good deeds throughout the state. Read about all six at degoodsam.com or pay a visit to the Delaware Samboree, September 6 through 8 at the state fairgrounds in Harrington.
