Do you have the urge to go fly fishing in a remote river? Camp Sherman is nestled into an isolated canyon in the Deschutes National Forest where the Deschutes and Metolius rivers flow together. In 1915, the Forest Service offered permits to construct cabins and today some 100 families live here full time.

Life in Camp Sherman revolves around the rustic Community Hall built by the residents in 1949, one of whom was Luther Metke, who felled local pines to cut the hand-hewn beams. Metke built more than 30 log houses and many bridges in the woods of Central Oregon. A documentary on his life was nominated for an Academy Award and the Governor of Oregon declared Luther Metke Day on his 100th birthday in 1985.
