Aircraft Have the Right of Way on Alaska Roads – 1980

Back in 1980, we decided we wanted to see Alaska. We had a truck with a slide-in shell. We took a month off from work, and because of time, took the Alaska Ferry to Haines. The roads at that time were either dirt, mud or gravel. We purchased the “Guidepost” and it proved to be indispensable. The most interesting experience was while traveling through a desolate area, we heard an aircraft engine, slowed down, and sure enough, a plane landed in front of us. We soon learned that aircraft have the right-of-way on Alaska roads.
