A Place to Call Home in Taos, NM

Taos, NM is a place we have come to love. In our summer RV travels, we venture out there nearly every year at either the beginning or the end of our roadtrip. Last summer, we discovered our new “home” in Taos, the Taos Valley RV Park and Campground. Located a block off the main street in town, Paseo del Pueblo, the Park is close to nearly everything one could want to see and do in Taos. But more important than its proximity, is the attitude and helpful friendliness that abounds in the park.

The site we chose

When we arrived, we discovered that we had been placed in a site that had the RV hookups on the wrong side of the site for our camper. Given that it was the middle of July, prime tourist season, we figured we were in for a problem. Revisiting the registration building/general store, we were greeted with a friendly, “No worries.” The attendant promptly provided us with a map, highlighting of all of the available sites with the correct hookups for us. He then suggested that we park our camper by the office and take our time and walk around to look at each of the sites and choose the one we would prefer.

We chose a site lovingly surrounded by an adobe half-wall and colorful perennials blooming right outside our camper windows. The smell of the sage was very relaxing. And from many points in the campground, including the site we chose, one could view majestic Taos Mountain, which overlooks the town. It is said that when visitors come to Taos, the mountain either loves them or throws them back! Those who are loved find it difficult to ever leave this place. That has been the case for us!

It was a delicious experience to look at the beautiful mountain while walking to the shower every morning. One grounds keeper told us that if you look closely at the right time of day, you can see a face imprinted on the mountain that looks to be the face of Jesus. It helps if there is a bit of snow on the mountain which is likely even in July. We thought we were able to glimpse it for a brief moment.

Taos Valley RV Park can accommodate everything from the biggest of the big rigs to the smallest pup tent. Facilities are clean and spacious. Pets are welcome with a few restrictions. But the best part about this place is the Taos attitude that carries through. Events may only occur on “Taos time” but the most relaxing attitude abounds here. It is truly a place of “No worries!”

In the next few posts I will be sharing some of the best parts of our previous visits to Taos, everything from activities and shopping to the best restaurants in town.
