Trailer Life Cream of the Crop Campsites: Fort Wilderness at Walt Disney World
Like me, I’m sure many of you have heard about how great the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are for RV camping in the Orlando area. The features and amenities of this campground are truly amazing, so it’s worth a look if you’d like a rustic yet comfortable place to rest up after a day at the Orlando amusement parks.
The campground has a whopping 694 mostly-shaded RV sites available, each with full hookups (30/50 amp service). Each site accommodates up to 10 guests, although each site varies in length (from 25’ to 65’) and amenities. For your convenience, each site also has a picnic table, charcoal grill and cable TV. High-speed Internet access is available for an extra fee.
Comfort Stations located throughout the campground provide immaculate private toilets and showers, laundry facilities, phones and ice machines, all within a nicely decorated, air-conditioned building. Groceries, camping supplies and sundry goods can be bought at the campground’s Meadow and Settlement Trading Posts. The park also offers campground guests free transportation between Fort Wilderness and the various destinations within the Walt Disney World Resort.
Last year’s rates started at $57 per night plus tax, and vary depending on season, dates and occupancy. The campground is open year round. Reservations can be made online or by calling (407) WDW-MAGIC or (407) 939-6244.
Pets: This park is one of the best for camping with pets. There are several leashed dog walking trails and even an off-leash Waggin’ Trails Dog Park for play time. In my opinion, the best feature by far is the day or overnight kennel care available to watch your dog, cat or small animal while you enjoy a day of adventure at the Walt Disney World Resort. Be advised Fort Wilderness does not allow pets to stay in tents or vehicles without air conditioning.
Climate: Central Florida typically experiences pleasant temperatures all year: average daily temperature is 61°F in winter and 80°F in summer (and up into the low 90s), with average humidity around ranging from 68-76 percent respectively.
