1960: A Rented 16ft. Trailer Kicks off 50 Years of RVing

The year is 1960. I had just returned from seminary and was serving a United Methodist Church in Keota, Iowa. My wife and I were leaving Sunday afternoon after morning services. However, the day before our leaving I fell and broke my foot.  Needless to say, we were a day late in our leaving (until after a cast was applied) . We left on Monday
with a rented 16 ft Aljo (our first camping experience.) My leg in a  cast and my wife 3 1/2 months before the delivery of our first son.

My parents decided to go with us. They slept in the small bed and the two of us (led in cast and pregnant) slept on the folddown dinnet set. We went to Lake Okoboji and enjoyed fishing. However, as we caught fish my Dad kept busy putting them on the stringer (since I was with a cast and on crutches), but did we have fun. This year marks 50 years camping. We now own a 21 ft. travel trailer.
