In a recent post, I highlighted the Good Sam Camping smartphone app and discussed using it to plan our next camping adventure (see “Planning our 2014 Travels with the Good Sam App”). Loaded with a multitude of handy features, this app has become the only way I plan our camping trips, but it has another use.
There have been times (refer to my June 4th post on “The Joys of Tent Camping” for example) when it would have been smart to stop for the night earlier than planned. One of the reasons that didn’t happen is that the thought of driving around a strange town in search of a campsite didn’t appeal to us. With the Good Sam Camping App, however, we can all easily find a Good Sam Campground and a site for the night, even while on the road.
Say you’re headed to your reserved site, but are still six hours away and the sun is beginning to set. You know you should stop for the night and want to find an campground, but don’t know the area. Once, we found ourselves driving through Cheyenne, Wyoming.
To find somewhere to stay for the night, you pull out your smartphone and load up the Good Sam Camping App and type in Cheyenne, WY. Immediately, a number of RV parks and campgrounds appear, many with Good Sam ratings! Then, you select a Good Sam Campground, the Terry Bison Ranch RV Park in this instance, but want to know if your pets will be welcome. You also need to know if they provide wifi service.
Once you click on the site you’ve selected, you will be treated to a list of the park’s amenities. In addition, you can choose to view information about the sites, such as how many there are, the sizes and what types of rigs are accommodated. Cost information is also included.
Finally, you can call or email the park and make your reservation for that same night. I think this little invention will help us all travel a little more safely and sleep a little better at night. Happy travels!
