The good times never end at this fun Virginia resort.

Sample delicious oysters, reel in hefty bluefish or launch a kayak into a fun waterway during your visit to Urbanna, Virginia. Renowned for its commitment to preserving its history, the town sits on the banks of the Rappahannock River near its outlet to the Chesapeake Bay. Visitors can use Bethpage Camp-Resort as a basecamp for exploring this compelling area, home to so many attractions that it’s too much fun for travelers.

Historic Urbanna

History buffs will spend their time exploring the many locations named to the National Register of Historic Places, including Rosegill Plantation, the Colonial Courthouse, the Wormeley Cottage and the Urbanna Historic District. Rosegill Planation consists of several buildings dating back to the 18th century including a washhouse, dwelling house and storage house. The Urbanna Historic District boasts 65 historic buildings, including a 1760 brick storehouse and two mid-18th century residences. The architecture styles in the district include Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and American Foursquare. Take a walking tour of the historic district to learn about the town’s colonial past, which stretches back to the late 1600s.

Fun Festivals

Foodies will feel at home here. Urbanna plays host every November to the Urbanna Oyster Festival where its all about this tasty little bivalve (Virginia is home to some of the tastiest oysters in the country thanks to the salinity levels in the Virginia waters.) The Urbanna Wine and Oyster stroll is another event, held in October, that focuses on the oyster as well as making great pairings with wines.  In June, the town hosts Arts in the Middle, a fine arts show held on the grounds of historic Hewick Plantation. A summer Farmer’s Market, outdoor movies and Halloween and holiday events round out the fun here.

Water is King

Water recreation rules in Urbanna. With the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay so close, there’s no end to the water activities you can find here. Saltwater fishing charters are available to try your luck at catching rockfish, flounder, trout and bluefish. Or take a charter tour of the Bay. The Rappahannock is ripe for tubing and kayaking. Take a sailing lesson or just enjoy dinner waterside. A beautiful experience whichever way you choose to enjoy the waters here.

Nearby Attractions

Explore nearby attractions to maximize your fun. Historic Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement are less than an hour away, as is Busch Gardens Williamsburg. These two points of the famous Historic Triangle will enlighten and entertain folks who are eager to explore America’s history. The Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail includes seven wineries to tour and taste. Prime Outlets of Williamsburg are great for shopping as are the shops in downtown Urbanna.

Choose Your Adventure

There are countless ways to enjoy Bethpage Camp-Resort in Urbanna, including:

  • The waterpark, with its bright slides and winding tubes, all ready to splash you down into the refreshing pool.
  • Lake Lecompte, the on-site freshwater lake with its opportunities for kayaking, paddleboating and swimming.
  • The Aqua Jump, the lake’s floating trampoline that sits ready and waiting for you to literally go jump in the lake. The newly redesigned miniature golf course and the artfully designed cows you’ll find at every hole (a nod to the dairy farm that resided on the land predating the resort.)
  • The fabulous accommodations that include fully-appointed cottages to spacious RV and tent sites.

Too much fun for everyone!

More Resort Fun

Of course, with so much do at the resort, you might choose to just hunker down and choose a different bit of fun each day you’re here. In addition to the lake and the water park, but there’s also a great sandy beach for relaxing, a camp store for browsing/shopping, four playgrounds, an amphitheater, a pavilion and a marina.

Then there’s the Creamery, home to 20 different ice cream flavors served up in a variety of styles, from waffle cones to sundaes. Yum!

Another fun thing going on here — rather, make that plenty of fun things going on here — are the fun-filled theme weekend and special events. Check out all the scheduled events throughout the year including a Bethpager River Cruise, theme weekend, fishing charters and Halloween fun, all right onsite.
