The crown jewel of Alberta is Banff National Park. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains on the southwestern border with British Columbia. This one-of-a-kind park is home to jaw-dropping mountain views, mesmerizing glacial lakes and the charming town of Banff.

For those who want to take it easy, scenic drives allow you to enjoy the park’s incredible beauty from the comfort of your vehicle. Not far from Banff is Lake Louise, a mesmerizing aquamarine glacial lake whose surface gracefully reflects the surrounding landscape. Gaze in awe from the Chateau Lake Louise or rent a canoe to get closer to the vivid waters.

If you’re thirsting for more natural wonders, journey to the heart of the Rockies to discover Jasper National Park. Spanning 4,200 square miles, Jasper is the largest national park in Canada and is packed with thundering waterfalls, hidden lakes, lush forests and untouched glaciers.

When you’re driving from Lake Louise to Jasper, be sure to take your time along the Icefields Parkway. Weaving through everything from glaciers and lakes to mountains and waterfalls, this 143-mile stretch of highway is one of the most gorgeous drives in the country.

For a change of scenery, head east to the badlands to witness intriguing rock formations and the largest collection of dinosaur fossils on the globe. Approximately 75 million years ago, this area was inhabited by 40 species of dinosaurs.

Excitement at Every Turn

There’s always fun to be had in Edmonton, located 195 miles to the east of Jasper. Take advantage of world-class shopping and entertainment at West Edmonton Mall. This sprawling shopping mecca encompasses 800 stores and indoor amusement parks.

Situated 77 miles east of Banff in the prairies is Calgary, a thriving metropolis steeped in Wild West spirit. Go up Calgary Tower for 360-degree views of the picturesque cityscape and nearby mountains or uncover the past at Heritage Park Historic Village.

The biggest draw to the city is the Calgary Stampede, a 10-day rodeo and festival held every July. Featuring rodeo attractions, parades, country music concerts, First Nation exhibits, chuckwagon racing and much more, the Stampede celebrates the city’s cowboy roots and attracts more than a million visitors annually.
