Find some time to walk through Brown’s campus and take in the inspirational surroundings, then make your way to city’s other famous school, Rhode Island School of Design. This city’s big emphasis on art will draw you into experiencing Water Fire — the award-winning, incendiary sculpture located on the rivers of the city’s downtown.

2. Narragansett

The beaches in this eastern town are considered one of New England’s finest. So grab an umbrella, some sunscreen and dig your feet into the sand at Narragansett Town Beach. While enjoying the shores of Narragansett, make your way down to Point Judith Lighthouse, a structure that lit the way in these dangerous waters for 100 years. Get your fill of nature in this town by heading next to Fishermen’s Memorial State Park, a gorgeous, 91-acre preserve and campground.

3. Westerly

Drive 34.6 miles, 35 minutes • Nature, History, Community

This destination is ideal for families looking for some fun in the sun. Misquamicut State Beach is a spot you will love relaxing on. If you’re feeling more adventures, it’s also a spot where you can rent a boat and speed around the state’s coast of the Atlantic Ocean. To give yourself a break from the sun, pay a visit to the Flying Horse Carousel, a historic ride that dates to the late 1800s. Head on down the shores to Atlantic Beach Park, where you will find food, rides and other oceanfront fun for the whole family.
