The rich soil and wet weather in Nova Scotia make it the perfect place to produce grapes that make delicious and scintillating wines. From sparkling to white, red and beyond, Nova Scotia vintages will awaken you to bold new flavors.

1. Wolfville

Starting point • Food, Outdoor Recreation, Quirky

A small town of just over 4,000, Wolfville offers more than meets the eye. Located along the shores of the Minas Basin, the community is a launching pad to great hiking trails, and a day trip to Cape Split is definitely worth it. However, wine is the main focus here, so hop aboard the Wolfville Magic Winery Bus for a flavor-filled ride. This double-decker vehicle takes loops all day, making it easy for you to jump on and jump off at each winery. A day on the bus will allow you to visit four wineries.

2. Windsor

Drive 16.2 miles, 21 minutes • Food, History

Windsor is considered the birthplace of hockey, with an origin dating back to 19th-century games on a local frozen pond. In addition to puck history, Windsor is also home to the Haliburton House Museum, where 19th-century author Thomas Chandler Haliburton penned famous novels based around a character named Sam Slick. But the wine is where it’s at in Windsor — this town is home to a bevy of vineyards. Award-winning winery Avondale Sky, as well as Santine-Famille, are two vineyards that keep visitors happy.

3. Halifax

Drive 40.6 miles, 46 minutes • Food, History

The cooler climates of Nova Scotia create very distinctive tastes, and the vineyards in Halifax are no exception. Indulge in many tastings in this area, and your taste buds will thank you. Step away from the glass and you’ll discover a metropolis chock-full of museums, great restaurants and more. The breeze from the sea keeps everything feeling fresh here, and the city’s beautiful parks are lush and well-tended.
