1. Peace Arch / Surrey

Starting Point • History, Nature, Outdoor Recreation, Shopping

The Peace Arch stands at the border between the United States and Canadian in recognition of the peaceful relations between two great nations. Cross at Blaine, Washington, and you’re in Surrey, British Columbia. Surrey’s a charming blend of urban and rural lifestyles, and you can choose between driving down country roads or visiting chic boutiques at Morgan Crossing. Chill out in any of Surrey’s 600 public parks and green belts, take an eco-tour in the surrounding wilderness or climb an indoor rock wall at the Coastal Climbing Centre.

2. Vancouver

20.4 miles, 40 minutes • Entertainment, Food, History, Outdoor Recreation, Shopping

Vancouver’s been the place to be since 16,000 BC, when the Coast Salish people inhabited this beautiful area. These days, the city on the Georgia Strait is a lot more metropolitan, packed with outstanding restaurants and out-of-this-world shopping. Walk the 230-foot-high Capilano Suspension Bridge just outside of town, or say “hello” to whales and dolphins at the impressive Vancouver Aquarium in vast Stanley Park. Eager to see the big picture? View the sprawling city from 430 feet up atop the Vancouver Lookout tower.
